Dining furniture is bought on two numbers that rarely appear together: how many people fit, and how much room is left to walk behind a pulled out chair. A 47 inch round table seats four comfortably and six at a squeeze; an extendable version turns the same table into a six seater for the days it matters. Both numbers are on every page in this section.
The storage side of the room is the half people underestimate. A buffet or sideboard has to swallow the things a kitchen cannot: serving dishes, table linen, the appliances used twice a year. Ours are built with adjustable shelves rather than fixed ones, because the height of a stack of plates is not the height of a stand mixer.
