Underneath the finish it is built from velvet and linen, wooden slats.

The mattress deck lifts on gas struts, so the entire footprint of the bed becomes one compartment and no floor space is needed at the sides.

Details worth knowing: the slat bearings are damped, which is where bed noise comes from.
