This is our twin size frame, built around a 38 x 75 in mattress.
Structurally it is built from steel frame and linen, with steel slats and 6 legs reaching the floor, rated to 1,000 lb. For storage there are 12 in of clearance underneath.
Details worth knowing: the slat bearings are damped, which is where bed noise comes from and no box spring is needed. Assembly takes about 30 minutes with the tools supplied.
A frame is judged after the first month rather than in the photograph. Slat spacing keeps the mattress flat, the centre legs keep the middle from dropping, and damped slat bearings are what keep it silent.
A bedroom is planned around one number nobody prints: the walking space left once the bed is in. Two feet on any side you use, thirty inches at the foot if there is a route past it. Frame dimensions rather than mattress dimensions are the ones to measure with, and they are on every page in bedroom. The full arithmetic is in The Bed Frame Guide: Slats, Storage and Why Beds Squeak.
